SAP TechEd 2026: Joule Studio Expands to 70-Plus Models with n8n and Space-Validated AI
At TechEd 2026 in Berlin, SAP announced that Joule Studio now supports more than 70 AI models, added early-adopter access to n8n-based workflow design, and confirmed its SAP-RPT tabular foundation model has been deployed and validated on the HPE Spaceborne Computer-2 aboard the International Space Station.

The development
SAP used TechEd 2026 in Berlin to push Joule Studio further toward a full agent-development platform. The key announcements:
- 70+ AI models: Joule Studio now exposes a model library spanning more than 70 AI models, giving developers — and no-code builders — a broader palette to wire into custom agents and workflows.
- n8n workflow integration (early adopter): SAP introduced early-adopter access to n8n, an open-source workflow-automation tool, inside the Joule Studio environment. This brings a visual, node-based design surface to agent orchestration without requiring developers to write orchestration logic from scratch.
- No-code and pro-code paths: The studio explicitly targets both citizen developers building agents through guided UIs and professional developers who want programmatic control — a dual-mode approach SAP has been signalling for several releases.
- SAP-RPT on the ISS: SAP's tabular foundation model — SAP-RPT — was deployed on the HPE Spaceborne Computer-2 aboard the International Space Station, where it was validated under real edge-compute conditions. SAP is positioning this as proof of the model's ability to run in resource-constrained, disconnected environments.
What it actually means
What is genuinely new
The n8n integration is a concrete step: n8n has a large open-source community and a well-understood node graph model, so its inclusion reduces the vendor lock-in concern that dogs most low-code orchestration layers. Early-adopter status means it is not yet general availability, and adoption velocity will depend on how much of n8n's ecosystem SAP actually exposes versus wrapping it tightly.
The 70+ model count is notable for breadth, but breadth alone is not a decision criterion. What matters for customers is which models are certified for which SAP data contexts, what the latency and cost profiles look like per model, and whether model governance (audit, versioning, rollback) is included — none of which the announcement clarifies in detail.
The ISS validation: signal or spectacle?
Deploying SAP-RPT on the Spaceborne Computer-2 is a legitimate edge-compute stress test — low power budget, high latency to ground, no live data pipeline. If the model performs reliably there, the implication for industrial edge deployments (manufacturing shop floors, offshore rigs, remote logistics nodes) is real. However, the jump from ISS validation to production edge ERP requires middleware, security certification, and integration work that the announcement does not address.
The readiness caveat
Joule Studio's agent-building capability assumes developers have access to clean, governed business data to wire into agents. Most SAP tenants running hybrid or legacy landscapes do not have that foundation in place. Expanding the model library and adding n8n does not change that constraint — it just raises the ceiling for customers who have already cleared it.
What to watch for
Watch whether n8n integration moves from early-adopter to general availability within two quarters — that timeline will signal how production-ready SAP considers the orchestration layer. Also track whether SAP publishes model-specific governance and certification details for the 70+ model library; without that, the count is a marketing figure rather than an enterprise procurement criterion.
