What Is SAP AI Core and AI Launchpad? Definition and Role
SAP AI Core and AI Launchpad are BTP's model-serving and orchestration layer, running both SAP Joule and any custom AI a company builds on its own SAP data.
SAP AI Core / AI Launchpad
SAP AI Core and AI Launchpad are the model-serving and orchestration layer within SAP BTP, giving development teams a place to deploy, monitor, and manage machine learning models and generative AI workloads that power both SAP's own Joule agents and any custom AI a company builds on top of its SAP data.
AI Core handles the operational side: running models, scaling them, and connecting them to the data and processes they need to act on. AI Launchpad is the management console sitting above it, where teams monitor what's actually deployed, track usage, and manage lifecycle across scenarios. Together they're less a product a business user interacts with and more the plumbing an IT or data science team configures once, so that Joule agents and any custom models a company builds have somewhere consistent to run.
This layer matters for AI readiness because it's where governance decisions get enforced in practice, not just written down in policy. Which models are approved, how usage is monitored, and how a custom agent built in Joule Studio actually gets deployed all run through AI Core, which makes its configuration a prerequisite most readiness checklists underweight.
