What Is SAP Generative AI Hub? Definition and Purpose
Generative AI Hub is SAP's managed service for governed access to foundation models inside BTP, so projects don't each need their own separate LLM connection.
Generative AI Hub
Generative AI Hub is the managed service inside SAP BTP that gives developers governed access to foundation models from multiple providers through one set of APIs, orchestration tools, and usage controls, without each project having to negotiate and secure its own connection to an external large language model.
Before Generative AI Hub, a team building a custom AI feature on SAP data had to independently handle model access, API keys, cost tracking, and data governance for whichever external LLM provider they chose. Generative AI Hub centralizes that: model access is provisioned once, through SAP, with consistent logging and governance applied across whichever model a given workload uses. Joule itself is built on top of this layer, and so is any custom generative AI feature a company adds through Joule Studio or direct BTP development.
The practical benefit for IT leaders is auditability. When every generative AI call runs through one governed hub instead of a dozen ad hoc integrations, questions about data residency, model version, and usage cost have one place to be answered, which matters as EU AI Act obligations reach full enforcement in August 2026.
